ASIFA-Atalnta call for animators and films: Animation Draw and "Roll Yer Own"! And more

Hi animation fan!

ASIFA-Atlanta will be having our annual "Roll Yer Own" showcase of local independent animation at the Five Spot on May 31st. We highly encourage you to submit an animated film; please fill out the form on our website:

http://asifa-atlanta.com

Films in "Roll Yer Own" will be considered for inclusion on our International Animation Day DVD, which we send all over the world each year in October (Japan, Israel, France, Korea...). This is a great opportunity.

Also, as part of the Atlanta Film Festival, ASIFA-Atlanta is putting on a collaborative animation event- an Animation Draw!

The Animation Draw will take place at The Independent on Saturday, April 18th, 11am to 4pm, just prior to the screening of Bill Plympton's "Idiots & Angels" at 4:45pm at Midtown Art Cinema.

We will have a few light table set up- artists will take turns drawing, picking up where the last artist left off. It'll be free both to attend and participate.

The result will be a collaborative animation!

We need artists- whether you've never animated before or you're Senior Animation Director at Turner Studios, please sign up for Atlanta's first-ever Animation Draw:

We plan to show the resulting film at the Drink and Draw / Dr. Sketchy's on Tuesday, April, 21st, 9pm at Highlander, which is also part of the Atlanta Film Festival. It will be a free themed drawing event coinciding with the showing of the animated independent film "Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre" at 7:25pm.

I'd like to give a big welcome our newest ASIFA-Atlanta board member, Sandra Padilla! She will be taking over Alena Spragg's membership duties. Thank you so much, Alena (we'll miss you!), for all that you've done, and thank you Sandra for stepping up!!

Quintron and Miss Pussycat will be performing a Benefit Concert for the Center for Puppetry Arts on Saturday, May 2, 2009, 10pm, following the Trixie and the Treetrunks screening at 8pm. The concert is $15. The film is $7 (free for Center members). If you want to support the Center and see some very creative music and performance, this is a good way to do that! More info and tickets:

Danger Woman's Superhero Showdown is happening on April 30th at 8pm at the Vinyl on 1374 West Peachtree Street. It's a benefit concert to raise awareness and completion funds for the film, "Disabled But Able To Rock", a locally-produced documentary by Blake Myers. The show will include The Selmanaires, The Falcon Lords, and appearances by members of Blast Off Burlesque, and a superhero costume contest. Danger Woman's Danger Force Band will also make an appearance. It's rumored that a certain someone may shave their beard at this show, but it is still to be determined. The show will be $10 at the door.
